Whether it’s as a 20L Midnight Navy or a 30ML Charcoal pack, the Peak Design Everyday Backpack V2 has been decisively reimagined to redefine modern tastes. For the exterior, Peak Design have used a weatherproof, 400D nylon canvas shell which is DWR impregnated, double poly-coated and made of 100% recycled plastics. All colourways except black are also Bluesign approved, communicating a clear love of sustainable and ethical materials.
Consistency with other Peak Design products has also been carried well here, a great example being the nubuck leather accents and heavy duty nylon webbing featured in all the straps, loops and handles. Metal hardware has been used on the ladder locks and sternum strap hooks, while the zipper pulls are in-line with Peak Design standard hypalon. What these small details highlight is a sharp understanding of build quality, something that has been cultivated over many years of offering exceptional carry and storage solutions.
The all-important zippers have made use of new UltraZip technology, employed across all of Peak Design’s newest bags. Essentially it features a new exterior zipper built to withstand decades of use, engineered with vastly superior abrasion resistance when compared with conventional zips. Much like the trusty YKK AquaGuard zippers, these are also weatherproof, so you can be sure your cargo is protected from the elements at all times.
On each side of the Peak Design Everyday backpack V2, gusseted pockets have been included to accommodate a variety of different sizes of gear like tripods and water bottles for quick and easy access. Above each pocket also sits thick and padded haul handles, included so you can pick up the bag from different angles. One of the handles even has an elastic cord with one of Peak Design’s signature anchors, to which you can tether a set of keys to access
A delicate foam padding defines both the back panel and rotatable co-axial shoulder straps, extra comfortable and ergonomic thanks to a breathable vented mesh and this excellent ribbing which allows for extra cushioning and airflow. It’s very much like the Everyday Backpack, with little change save for magnets on the shoulder straps, which keep them attached flat on the back panel.
A luggage passthrough loops behind the back panel, as well as a velcro-lined lower sleeve which you can put through or attach to a waist belt for heavy or longer hauls. This is again kept nice and flat with those aforementioned magnets. Peak Design’s beloved sternum strap makes a return, with three points of adjustment so you are given plenty of options with how you’d like to carry the bag. And completing the harness system is a nice, large haul handle on the very top of the bag, made with gorgeous nubuck leather for a nice, tactile feel.
There are two ways to get into the pack’s main compartment - either through the side doors via dual zippers that you can pull up or down, or through the flaptop which is secured by Peak Design’s signature Maglatch. Here, the maglatch has been given a bit of an update, with a sleeker look and a more ergonomic pull. Once inside, the main compartment is essentially an empty cavity with dividers to help you compartmentalise your gear in a way that best suits your cargo. It’s almost like your traditional camera backpack, with enough space to lay it flat on the ground, unzip the back and have easy access to every single thing inside. Except here the layout is closer to a vertical modular shelving system.
Central to this are the three Flexfold dividers which organise and protect your gear. You can have a normal shelf, or push one slip up to create what Peak Design call a “cubby”, which creates three individual slots on the one divider. If you push both slips up, you can create a passthrough for a bigger product, or you can simply take all the dividers out and simply tuck them away to make space for one unified cargo.
Smaller items can be stored in additional pockets which are attached to the side doors of the main compartment. This is perfect for camera batteries, SD cards, cables and chargers, or for those not carrying camera gear, things like snacks, pens and earphones. Items which are a bit more delicate and require immediate access, like a passport or a pair of sunglasses, can be stored in a small zippered compartment near the top.
Rounding out the interior is a variable height compartment that can easily fit a 15-inch laptop or tablet, ingeniously customisable thanks to a little catch secured by a velcro panel and covered by a flap. You can simply lift the flap and adjust the catch to the size of your device so whatever the size, it’s secured exactly where you need it. In addition, some nearby slip pockets can be used to store power cables and other peripherals.
Peak Design have taken their highly regarded Everyday Backpack and pulled off the impossible - they made it even better. The functional and aesthetic improvements all present meaningful changes to suit a wide variety of cargo, making this is essential for anyone who values flexibility, wants their gear protected at all times, and appreciates smart, ethical design.
