When Rains were founded in 2012, they had one mission: To reinvent the humble rubber raincoat. Since then, they’ve evolved to become one of the most creative makers of weatherproof bags and accessories. Today, we’re going to demystify the Rains backpack range, so you can choose the right one for you.
Every Rains backpack here features the trademark minimalist aesthetic and water-resistant polyurethane construction. We look at the Rains Runner 13” laptop backpack, Rains MSN Backpack, Rains Laptop Backpack and their new Field and Utility Bags. They all make great everyday backpacks but vary a lot in how much they can haul. Our guide will focus on how they differ in size, padding and organisation.

Rains Runner Backpack
The Rains Runner 13” laptop backpack is possibly the most practical Rains backpack. With its roomy main compartment, laptop sleeve and mesh padded straps, it’s an ideal bag for carrying all your daily essentials. Meanwhile, the drawstring and buckle closure ensures that no rain creeps into your Rains.
There are additional compartments accessible via waterproof zippers and mesh bottle sleeves – one on each side. This gives you plenty of options for stashing your go-to accessories.
Rains MSN Backpack
The Rains MSN backpack is a more lightweight bag, making it more for days out at the museum rather than overnight stays. If you don’t carry a lot to work, it will also easily fit your lunch, headphones and a sweater.
A nice feature of the MSN backpack are the neat snap buttons at the top on both sides. This keeps the bag looking nice and slim even if you’ve loaded it with gear, making it an ideal bag for after work drinks.
Rains Backpack
The Rains 13” Laptop backpack is one of the most popular backpacks at Rushfaster. It’s sleek design makes it a great bag for uni students and professionals who carry mainly flat objects. The Rains Laptop Backpack will keep all your valuables dry with the flap closure and gusseted side panels, which naturally fold in funnel rain away.
Our favourite feature has to be the hidden pocket on the back panel for your phone and wallet. The hidden pocket is not only great for security reasons, but it also helps maintain the laptop backpack’s minimalist aesthetic.
Rains Field Bag
The Rains Field Bag is the newest in the Rains backpack family. Who knew the classic backpack silhouette could look this good? The Field Bag features comfortable padded straps and a large front pocket to store your little accessories. Inside the main compartment, there’s a padded laptop sleeve and plenty of room to fit your daily essentials.
Rains Utility Bag
The Rains Utility Bag is a tall, technical-looking backpack inspired by backpacking and rock climbing. It’s a good example of how Rains can update classic designs and make them look clean and new again. The Utility Bag is a good choice for when you’re travelling light but still want a bit of organisation from your pack, which the two deep front compartments give you. As far as we’re concerned, it’s a really welcome addition to the Rains backpack line-up.
Rains continue to go from strength to strength with their range of weather-ready backpacks. They very quite vastly in terms of size, padding and organisation, but one thing is for sure: each Rains backpack is thoughtfully designed to have it’s own personality.
