With the summer holidays approaching, we’re sure that many of you have some exciting trips planned. We can’t wait to get away for some sun and fun over the Christmas break either. Our Herschel Novel Duffle Review is a result of us wanting to road test a travel bag in preparation for our own holidays. We wanted to try out something that’s a decent size, with enough room for about a week away. Have a read to find out if the Novel Duffle is the right bag for your next vacation.
The Herschel Novel Duffle comes in plenty of colour options to suit your style and the rest of your luggage. For our Herschel Novel Duffle Review we used the Raven Crosshatch colour and really liked the interesting woven texture. Hold this bag by the dual carry handles or a removable padded shoulder strap that features an air mesh layer. The strap clips on and off easily thanks to the plastic latches at each end. Although this duffle isn’t water resistant, the waterproof zip at the main entrance does provide a little bit of protection from the rain. The 42.5L capacity means that the Novel is quite large in size. It may be too large for everyday gym use but it’s perfect for weekend trips or slightly longer getaways.
The Herschel Novel Duffle is quite minimal and straightforward. There aren’t many compartments in this bag which means that packing is a breeze. Simply pop everything into the main cargo section and you’re good to go. The big hollow shell does feature a really nifty hidden shoe compartment that’s awesome for keeping other items clean. It’s accessible through a zip on the outside of the bag and separates dirty shoes from clothing. This is the only external pocket on the bag but there’s also an internal mesh section for small items.
How Much Does It Fit?
The 42.5L capacity of the Novel Duffle makes it an ideal short getaway bag. You’ll have plenty of room to use it with about a week’s worth of clothing and toiletries. To give this bag a proper holiday test for our Herschel Novel Duffle Review, we packed it with the usual suspects for a summer trip and this is what we could fit:
3 pairs of pants
10 pairs of underwear
1 pair of swimmers
1 medium toiletries bag
1 pair of shoes
1 beach towel
The Novel Duffle had more than enough space to house all of these items comfortably. We think we still could have fit a few more changes of clothes if we really needed to as well.
If you’re travelling for about a week then we’d highly recommend taking a Herschel Novel Duffle with you. If it’s light enough, you’ll even be able to fit the bag in an overhead compartment. This is really convenient because your duffle will be with you and you won’t have to wait at baggage claim. Some airlines are very strict with their baggage requirements though so just double check all the dimensions beforehand to save you from having to check your bag at the airport.
